Todo mundo sabe que carnaval é época de brilho e criatividade! Mas os queridinhos glitters podem ser muito prejudiciais ao meio ambiente. Isso porque, em geral, são feitos de PET, que é um tipo de plástico. Quando o corpo é lavado e o glitter vai para o ralo, ele se decompõe em pedaços menores, os microplásticos, que vão parar nos mares e oceanos e dentro de seres marinhos. Essas micropartículas já foram encontradas, inclusive, na rede sanguínea e na placenta humana.

Então, que tal optar por materiais biodegradáveis na hora de se arrumar para o carnaval? Há diversos glitters supostamente sustentáveis, mas é importante prestar atenção na procedência deles! Uma pesquisa da Anglia Ruskin University, em Cambrigde percebeu que muitos “ecoglitters” usavam celulose revestida com alumínio e coberto com uma fina camada de plástico, e que, portanto, continuava com implicações negativas para a natureza. A líder da pesquisa, Dra. Danielle Green, explicou no site da universidade que outro prejuízo ambiental foi encontrado: o glitter de celulose levou ao crescimento do “caracol de lama” da Nova Zelândia, uma espécie invasora, e que os níveis de clorofila do rio examinado haviam sido alterados.

Por isso, diversos materiais têm sido experimentados para conseguir um glitter biodegradável, como farinha de milho, algas e gelatinas incolores. Uma das matérias primas mais procuradas é o pó de mica. Trata-se de uma substância que vem de rochas e, por isso, é inofensiva ao retornar à natureza.
