O Atacante Diego Souza teve seu vínculo encerrado com o Grêmio, nesta sexta-feira (30). Ele está saindo do tricolor gaúcho após três anos e meio no clube. Nas redes sociais o atleta se despediu oficialmente dos torcedores, mas não disse se vai se aposentar do futebol ou seguirá sua carreira por outra equipe.
O jogador foi o artilheiro do tricolor nas últimas três temporadas (2020,2021 e 2022), porém com a chegada do astro Luis Suárez acabou indo para o banco de reservas no início do ano. Diego, que está com 38 anos, não conseguiu repetir as atuações de temporadas passadas e não marcou sequer um gol em 2023.
O jogador não entra em campo desde 25 de março, quando teve uma fratura no menisco medial do joelho esquerdo, na partida que válida pela semifinal do Campeonato Gaúcho, contra o Ypiranga. Diego Souza precisou fazer uma cirurgia, desde então o atleta vinha se recuperando. O jogador entrou em campo por nove oportunidades com a camisa do Grêmio.
No seu texto de despedida em sua conta do Instagram, o jogador frisou que os últimos meses foram “difíceis” e que sua passagem pelo Grêmio não terminou da forma que o jogador gostaria. Mas, agradeceu ao clube e torcida que sempre o apoiou.

O que fica no ar, é se Diego vai seguir sua carreira nos gramados ou irá aposentar as chuteiras. Ano passado em entrevista ao ge, o experiente atacante revelou que desejaria se aposentar pelo tricolor. Mas, nas últimas semanas, ele revelou para pessoas próximas que gostaria de atuar até o final da temporada.
Está é a segunda passagem de Diego pelo Grêmio. A primeira vez foi em 2007, onde Diego jogava como meia-atacante, participando de 64 partidas e marcando 16 gols. Nessa oportunidade o atleta foi vice-campeão da Copa Libertadores.
