Devido a declaração de pandemia do COVID-19, em março de 2020, muitos eventos foram cancelados, adiados ou alterados de presencial para digital, e não foi diferente com o Shanghai Fashion Week. Em 2020, o evento foi transmitido exclusivamente no portal Tmall.com e nesse ano, a realização está prevista para ser feita de 17 a 19 de junho no mesmo formato, com a expansão para outras plataformas digitais.

Mesmo a capital Chinesa ter diminuído o regime de quarentena e a população de cerca de 25 milhões de habitantes estar retornando lentamente ao “novo normal”, não foi possível organizar a semana de moda de forma presencial. O Shanghai Fashion Week foi agendado para ocorrer entre os dias 25 de março e primeiro de abril, para apresentar as coleções outono-inverno 2022/23, mas precisou ser adiada com o novo aumento de casos de COVID-19 nesse ano.

Os organizadores do evento anunciaram através do site oficial (shanghaifashionweek.com) e nas redes sociais, que os desfiles serão feitos feitos em colaboração com Douyin e todos vão ser transmitidos na versão chinesa do TikTok e no YouTube.
As transmissões vão ter cerca de 6h de duração, e serão apresentados entrevistas, bastidores, desfiles, entre outros. Em outubro de 2021, o total de 100 marcas participaram do evento, mas nesse ano, cerca de 30 já foram confirmadas.
