Na tarde deste sábado, 24, o presidente Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) desembarcou em Brasília após sua terceira viagem oficial ao continente europeu. No roteiro, Lula visitou dois países – Itália e França -, onde se encontrou com os líderes dos países que visitou, bem como, com outras diversas autoridades internacionais.
A viagem teve início na terça-feira, 20, quando Lula desembarcou em Roma, capital italiana. O presidente teve uma série de reuniões, tendo destaque para o encontro com a primeira-ministra italiana, Giorgia Meloni, líder de uma das principais coalizões de extrema-direita no país, bem como reuniu com o presidente italiano Sergio Mattarella, sendo este filiado a um partido de centro-esquerda. Na sequência, o presidente esteve no Vaticano para encontrar o Papa Francisco, no qual aproveitou para convidar o pontífice vir para o Brasil e conhecer o Círio de Nazaré em Belém do Pará.

Após cumprir suas agendas de compromissos na Itália, Lula desembarcou na França, lugar onde o presidente teve suas principais reuniões e falas em toda a viagem. Encontrou o presidente francês Emmanuel Macron e outros líderes mundiais na Cúpula por um Novo Pacto Financeiro Global. A principal pauta abordada foi o acordo entre Mercosul e União Europeia. Na oportunidade, Lula fez duras críticas às exigências feitas pelos europeus para que o acordo seja enfim celebrado.
“A carta adicional que a União Europeia mandou para o Mercosul é inaceitável porque eles põem punição para qualquer país que não cumpriu o Acordo de Paris. Nem eles cumpriram o Acordo de Paris”, disse Lula ainda na Itália. Ainda sob o mesmo tom, já ao lado do presidente francês, Lula afirmou “não ser possível” celebrar um acordo estratégico onde a UE emita um documento ameaçando seu parceiro estratégico.

Ainda no velho continente, o presidente Lula recebeu um convite para um encontro com príncipe herdeiro da Arábia Saudita, Mohammed bin Salman, na última sexta-feira. Porém, o presidente não compareceu ao evento, sob a justificativa de que estaria cansado no momento. A equipe de Lula temia que um encontro com o líder saudita tivesse um impacto negativo sobre o presidente, visto que o príncipe saudita acabou por presentear, em 2021, o então presidente Jair Bolsonaro e a então primeira-dama, Michelle Bolsonaro, um conjunto de joias milionárias.
Na ocasião, as joias acabaram por entrar de maneira irregular no Brasil, uma vez que os mandatários pretendiam ficar com as peças, mas, como apurado, o presente foi para o estado brasileiro, e não para as pessoas que o representava na viagem. Logo, a tentativa de retenção das joias pela equipe de Bolsonaro, na época, deu origem a uma investigação na Polícia Federal por suspeita de peculato.
