Nesta quinta-feira (23), a Inglaterra visitou foi até o Estádio Diego Armando Maradona, em Nápoles, e jogou contra a Itália e fizeram um clássico à altura das duas seleções. No final da partida, que se deu melhor foram os ingleses, que controlaram bem o primeiro tempo e seguraram a pressão italiana no final do jogo, para conseguir a vitória por 2 a 1.
A partida aconteceu pela rodada de abertura das Eliminatórias para a Eurocopa de 2024. Os gols da Inglaterra ficaram responsáveis por Declan Rice e Harry Kane que ainda se isolou como o artilheiro máximo da seleção com 54 gols. O gol da Itália foi marcado por Mateo Retegui, estreante da seleção italiana, que nasceu na Argentina, mas tem cidadania italiana graças ao avô.
Os ingleses não ganhavam dos italianos há dez anos. A última vitória foi em um amistoso disputado em agosto de 2012 e era o único desde 1997. Além de sair com três pontos, a Inglaterra terminou com um jejum que durava 46 anos sem vencer a Itália em jogos oficiais.

No 1º tempo, o time de Roberto Mancini nem ameaçaram. Aos 12 minutos, Kane dominou na área, porém teve o chute bloqueado, mas Declan Rice aproveitou efez o primeiro gol da partida. Harry Kane ampliou aos 43, depois do lateral Di Lorenzo encostou o braço na bola e após a revisão do VAR, o juiz deu pênalti aos ingleses. O jogador do Tottenham cobrou tranquilamente e se isolou como o maior artilheiro da seleção inglesa, com 54 gols, ultrapassando o Wayne Rooney.

SEGUNDO TEMPO
Não demorou muito tempo para a seleção italiana descontar o placar no segundo tempo. Logo nos 10 minutos de jogo, Mateo Retegui recebeu um excelente passe de Pellegrini e chutou cruzado. Animados com o gol a Itália continuou encurralando a Inglaterra, e os colocou de volta ao jogo. Os italianos trocaram bastante passes e ditaram o ritmo na segunda metade da partida, porém tiveram dificuldade para concluir.
A pressão da seleção local aumentou após o inglês Luke Shaw receber o segundo amarelo aos 34 minutos, devido a uma falta no meio de campo a acabou expulso. A partir disso, o time de Southgate se fechou na área defensiva e conseguiram segurar o resultado.
